Reflection: Today, we explore the powerful virtue of humility. In a world that often emphasizes self-promotion and standing out, the Bible calls us towards the exact opposite direction. The wisdom of Proverbs imparts the truth that humility and reverence for the Lord lead to true prosperity, honor, and life.

Did you know that humility is mentioned more than 70 times throughout the Scriptures? This speaks volumes about its importance in the Christian walk. It was through humility that our Savior, Jesus Christ, chose to lower himself, taking on the form of a servant and giving His life for ours (Philippians 2:6-8).

Humility doesn’t mean thinking less of yourself but rather thinking of yourself less. It is acknowledging that all we have and are comes from God. By this, we position ourselves not as the center of our universe, but rather as grateful beneficiaries of God’s boundless grace and mercy. In God’s Kingdom, the ‘least’ becomes the ‘greatest’ and the ‘last’ becomes the ‘first’.

Take time today to reflect on the areas in your life where you can practice humility. Ask God to guide you towards a life of humility that is rewarding and fulfilling, and be open to opportunities that allow you to serve others, thereby serving Him.

Prayer: Lord, we pray for a heart that embodies humility. Help us to put others before ourselves, just as You did. In our pursuit of success and honor, remind us that true riches lie in a life devoted to You. Thank you for the life-giving virtue of humility. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

As you journey through today, remember the strength of humility, and find your riches, honor, and life in reverence of the Lord.
